7th Update on Little LJ

Hey Everyone,

Yesterday we went to see the OB again. This visit was actually a “new patient” visit – yes we’ve been two times prior – but we just now had a chance to have our “first” appointment where we talked about medical history and the like. This visit was also very helpful for both of us to get a little better understand of the conversation we had started with the doctor the previous week (about the lung-to-head ratio). Without rehashing the whole conversation, Ben and I walked away feeling “cautiously optimistic” about LJ’s condition, as we had been prior to last week’s appointment. We will continue to see the OB one time a week, just to check on LJ. Next week we will be meeting with a pediatric cardiologist (children’s heart doctor) and the neonatologists (doctors who will care for LJ in the NICU). The pediatric cardiologist will take a look at LJ’s heart, just to have an idea of how she’s doing before she gets here. Our understanding, at this point, is that her heart is doing very well and has no problems. We will meet with the neonatologists in the NICU to just get to know who will be caring for LJ in the NICU when she arrives.

We also had a tour of the hospital last night. Our OB met us up there and took us around the Labor and Delivery floor showing us the different rooms, introducing us to the nurses, and just giving us a little more peace of mind about this whole process. Ben and I continue to say that it is amazing that our doctors at Shands have taken time out of their day to take us around the hospital and show us what the process will look like for us. It is so comforting that they have been so caring and accommodating to us. The nurses were very nice and excited to meet us.

The doctors have also set an ideal due date for LJ to be November 9th. They will induce labor on the evening of November 7th and she should be here sometime between then and the 9th. We had originally been told that we would have a c-section, but it looks like now we are going to try to have a natural birth. The whole time I have said that I will do whatever is best for LJ. The OB feels that either way of delivery will be okay, but prefers we at least try to have a natural delivery.

If we are being completely open and honest with you all – the time between last Wednesday’s and this Tuesday’s appointment had been pretty hard for both of us. We continue to say that we do not have faith in numbers, we have faith in our God who can do all things, but we still were rather shocked by the LTH ratio and frankly just sad and scared for what was to come. I will say that I am very thankful for Ben and his continued love and support of me through this time. There have been many times that Ben has had to get me motivated to get out of the house and get my mind off of the “what ifs” about LJ.

With that said, we are doing much better now since yesterday’s appointment. I continue to read through Psalm 139 and am reminded that God truly is in control and He is knitting LJ in the womb and He knows what the days ahead look like for her. We hold fast to the knowledge that God’s plan is much greater than anything Ben or I could ever fathom. When we begin to fear the future we are also reminded of the truth of Isaiah 41:10 which says, “so do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Knowing that God is walking right beside us through this process has been very comforting and encouraging for both of us because we know we couldn’t do this alone.

We do want to apologize to those of you who have reached out with a call, text, or email that hasn’t been returned by us. While we love to talk about our little girl, we realize it becomes a little overwhelming to keep talking about it all the time. Please don’t take that statement as we don’t want to talk to anyone about her, it has just been better for us to do it in our own timing, taking breaks to do things to get our mind off the situation. We are staying busy with crafts, including carving pumpkins later today. Ben is planning on making a “GO RANGERS” design for the World Series starting tonight. I’m sure he will blog some pictures later.

Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. We are continually thankful for the support we have been given over the last couple of months. We enjoy hearing from all of you and seeing the lives that have been touched by little LJ.

Love,

Ben, Katie, & Little LJ
